Norfolk Gardens and Green Spaces Festival 2012
Norfolk Gardens and Green Spaces Festival 2012 is being organised by the ECA.
The Festival aims to get people out and about, exploring, exercising, learning about and using and relaxing in gardens and green spaces in the county. It will provide a wide range of fun and practical activities for all ages.
Launching on the worldwide Fascination of Plants Day, the Festival will run from the 18th May to 27th July 2012 to coincide with the Olympic Torch Relay period through the UK and to include the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The Festival period will encourage and enable residents and visitors to explore less familiar parts of the county, to take part in events and enjoy gardens, parks, nature reserves and other green spaces. The promotion will also support Norfolk's outdoor green resources, which can be accessed all year round. The Festival will also provide people with new ideas on how else they can use green spaces, introduce them to new vistas and additional areas in their own locality, as well as revealing some of the hidden gardens behind familiar shops and houses.
From a sunset walk and stargazing on Sculthorpe Moor to a Jubilee Tea Dance in the Plantation Garden, outdoor theatre and ghost walks at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, looking for peregrine falcons on Norwich Cathedral Green, guided walks and family activity days at Holkham Nature Reserve and the many open gardens in Norwich and Norfolk, the Festival aims to provide something for everyone. We have nearly 200 confirmed events for the Festival to date including arts workshops / events, guided walks in a variety of locations, a range of children's and family activities, bushcraft, open gardens, events in Norwich parks and jubilee celebrations.
The Festival will also feature a strong strand around environmental sustainability linking it both to the ‘Greenest Olympics' and previous work carried out by the ECA.
