Wild about the Wensum
Award for global champion of environment
Global issues were to the fore in Norfolk on Saturday 19 May 2007 when celebrated botanist and environmental champion Professor David Bellamy was at the Pensthorpe Nature Reserve. David is a Trustee of the organisation that looks after the site and farms the land in a wildlife friendly way.The Fakenham Learning Community and the reserve, based in the valley of the river Wensum, organised a highly successful open day for local conservation organisations which focus on environmental issues.
The Educational Centres Association representing ‘Every Action Counts’ promoted its five themes for local and global sustainability; saving energy, travelling wisely, shopping ethically, saving resources and recycling, as well as caring for wildlife and the local area. Every Action Counts recruits local ‘champions’ to engage groups in identifying ways they can take meaningful steps to reduce their environmental impact.
